Women's Basketball Defeats Gordon, 60-41, For Season's First Conference Win
MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women’s basketball team captured its first conference win of the season, defeating visiting Gordon College, 60-41, on Saturday afternoon in Milton. The Colonels improved to 10-5 overall and 1-4 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action. The Fighting Scots fell to 2-15 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

Curry opened the game with a 12-2 run that began with a layup by senior forward Danyel Cousins (Brunswick, ME) and was capped off with a three-pointer from senior guard Joneiha Veiga (Brockton, MA) with 11:43 remaining in the first period. Gordon chipped away at the lead through the remainder of the half to cut the deficit to four (24-20) at intermission.

The Colonels took a 10-point lead (32-22) after a layup by senior forward Cortney Robinson (Brockton, MA). The Fighting Scots responded with a 12-4 run to pull within two after a jumper by sophomore forward Kayla Pacheco (Sutton, MA) with 9:52 remaining in regulation. Curry then went on to score 14 of the game’s final 21 points to secure the win.

Curry was led by Cousins with 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Carolyn Houston (Melrose, NY) added 12 points and Robinson scored 10.

Pacheco led Gordon with game highs in points (18) and rebounds (9), while senior guard Sara Schwanke (Duxbury, MA) contributed 11 points.

The Colonels resume play on Monday, hosting Mount Ida at 7:00 p.m. The Fighting Scots are off until January 27 when they travel to New England College for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
