Women's Basketball Captures 75-68 Win Over Johnson & Wales in Non-Conference Action
MILTON, Mass. – Senior Joneiha Veiga (Brockton, MA) and sophomore Julia Scrubb (Stowe, VT) each scored 19 points, leading Curry to a 75-68 non-conference win over visiting Johnson & Wales in women’s basketball action Thursday night in Milton. The Colonels improved to 9-3, while the Wildcats fell to 4-9.

Curry went into halftime with a 20 point lead (48-28) after a 12-2 run over the final 2:58 of the first period. The run began with a layup by sophomore forward Hailey Rafferty (Worcester, MA), and was capped off with a three-pointer by Veiga.

The Colonels biggest lead of the game (63-41) came in the second frame after a layup by freshman guard Ashley Assarian (Chicopee, MA) with 8:54 remaining. JWU then went on to score 23 of the game’s final 35 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the 22-point deficit.

Curry had three players score in double figures: Veiga, Scrubb and Rafferty (10 points). Veiga and Rafferty each recorded a double-double with 13 and 10 rebounds, respectively.

Senior guard Morgan Wilson (LaGrangeville, NY) and freshman guard Jenna Juron (Burnt Hills, NY) led the Wildcats with 14 points apiece. Sophomore forward Ayla Walter (Mount Pleasant, SC) added 12 and junior guard Kaitlyn Lefort (Pawtucket, RI) contributed 10. Johnson & Wales was led on the glass by sophomore guard Marina Millian (Chester, NY) with a team-high eight rebounds.

Both teams resume conference play on the road on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., with the Colonels traveling to Regis College and the Wildcats visiting Pine Manor College.
