WBB Powers Past Eastern Nazarene, 69-58

QUINCY, Mass. - With sharp shooting (42.9%) and balanced offensive power, Curry College knocked off Eastern Nazarene, 69-58, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) match-up Saturday afternoon in Quincy. Four Colonels’ players finished in double figures.

Trailing by 10 at the half, 37-27, the Lions came out on a 7-2 run to pull within five, 39-34, on freshman Antoinette Carradine’s (Honolulu, HI) baseline jumper with 15:15 left in the game.  Two field goals by freshman Alexis Malloy (Greenbelt, MD) and two free throws by Carradine capped another 6-1 run as the Lions tied the game at 40-40 with 13:00 minutes remaining.

ENC edged ahead as junior Ja’na Jenkins (Oakland, CA) nailed a baseline jumper to put the home team ahead, 42-41, for the first time since midway through the first half.

However, the Colonels responded with their own 9-1 run, grabbing a 50-43 lead capped by Cortney Robinson's (Brockton, MA) two free throws with eight minutes remaining.  Robinson then nailed a three to give the visitors a 10-point lead again, 55-45. The two teams traded baskets through the last six minutes but the lead was never reduced to less than six as the Colonels converted their free-throw opportunities.

Through the first 16 minutes of the game neither team built a lead greater than six.  But Curry pushed ahead by eight points, 28-20, on a steal and fast break lay up by Joneiha Veiga (Brockton, MA); then by 11 points, 33-22, on an Alyssa Boscarino (East Granby, CT) drive through the lane.

ENC brought the deficit back to six, 33-27, with a deep trey by Carradine and a deuce by Raven Coates (Jersey City, NJ), before the two teams continued to trade baskets going into the locker room with Curry ahead by 10.

Curry shot 42% from the field and 63% from the free throw line as they were led by Julia Scrubb’s (Stowe, VT) 19 points and Hailey Rafferty’s (Worcester, MA) 15 points.  Robinson and Veiga each followed with 11 points apiece.

The Lions were led by Malloy’s double-double (18 points, 23 rebounds), while teammate Christine Tucker (Antioch, CA) chipped in 8 points and had 6 assists.
