Softball Falls To Salve Regina On Senior Day

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College softball fell twice to league frontrunner Salve Regina University at the D. Forbes Will Field in their regular season finale and on Senior Day. The Colonels dropped game one by a 6-0 final then were topped 5-2 in the nightcap. Curry concludes the regular season with a 15-21 overall record and 7-11 the CCC. The Seahawks closes regular season play with a 22-11 overall record and a 16-2 in conference play.

At the conclusion of the games, seniors Marissa Bruno (Milford, Conn.), Mikayla Korona (Bellingham, Mass.) and McKenna Barlow (Middletown, R.I.) were honored in a special Senior Day ceremony.

GAME ONE

Salve Regina limited the Colonels to just one hit in a 6-1 game one victory. The Seahawks pounded out 13 hits while holding Curry to just one.

Salve Regina got on the board in the second, thanks to a one-run double to center by Lindsey Florent (New Bedford, Mass.). The base knock scored Lexi Soucie (North Easton, Mass.) to put the Seahawks up 1-0.

The visitors extended their lead in the fourth when Francesca Galeazzi (Lynn, Mass.) had a single of her own to left field which would score Florent to make it a 2-0 game. Soucie continued the offensive output for Salve Regina in the fifth with a single to center field to plate Amanda Reily (Barrington, N.H.) to make it a 3-0 game.

The Seahawks went on to tally three in the top of the seventh to take the game by a 6-0 final. Soucie opened the top of the frame when she reached on an error by Bruno, which allowed Karena Bushey (Waterford, Conn.). Kristen Hickey (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) then chipped in a two-RBI single to right to close the game scoring.

Riley paced all student-athletes, going 3-for-4 at the dish in the opener with two runs scored. Six other Salve Regina players had hits, including four with two each. Mikayla Lambert (Blackstone, Mass.) registered Curry's lone hit.

Kelsey Boarman (North Dighton, Mass.) picked up the win in the circle. The senior tossed a one hit shutout. She struck out one and walked one for her 14th victory of the season. Barlow was credited the loss, giving up six runs on 13 hits. She fanned one and walked one. 

GAME TWO

Curry started game two with a bang when Bruno crushed a home run to center field to give the Colonels a 1-0 lead.

The Seahawks answered back in their half of the second with back-to-back home runs to grab a 3-1 lead. Kara O'Riley (Acton, Mass.) hit a two run bomb to center and then Hickey followed with a solo shot.

Salve Regina added to their lead in the fourth, thanks to an RBI sacrifice bunt from Megan Guest (Meriden, Conn.) to score Soucie. Florent continued the inning with a single to left to plate Nikki Bukovsky (Westport, Conn.).  

Curry would get on the board once more in the fourth after Michaela Colleran (East Bridgewater, Mass.) had a sacrifice fly to center to score Kevi Oatway (East Hartford, Conn.) as the Colonels fell in the nightcap, 5-2.

Hickey led the Seahawks with three hits while Lambert paced Curry with three as well.

Kaleigh Dwyer (East Brunswick, N.J.) was credited with the win in the circle for Salve Regina. She tossed a complete game while allowing two runs on nine hits. The freshman struck out two for her seventh win of the season. Rebecca Black (East Greenwich, R.I.) got the loss as she went seven innings and gave up five runs on nine hits. She struck out five and walked one.

Both teams will wait for the announcement of their postseason opponents that will take place later this week.
