Colonels Down Salem St. 9-3, 4-0 in Non-Conference Play

Salem, Mass. –Junior Mikayla Lambert (Blackstone, Mass.) pitched seven innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and blasted a solo home run as the Curry Colonels defeated the Salem State Vikings 9-3 in game one of their scheduled doubleheader. In game two, Junior McKenna Barlow (Middleton, R.I.) threw a shutout as the Colonels blanked Salem State 4-0 to earn the sweep.
 
Game 1
Lambert went the distance and struck out four, as the Colonels knocked out 17 hits. Curry scored their first run in the second as Sophomore Morgan Bogardus (Cortland Manor, N.Y.) executed a sacrifice bunt, which brought home Sophomore Carolyn Lynch (Ipswich, Mass.), who has singled after a two base throwing error. Lambert led off the third with her first home run of the year as the Colonels built a 2-0 lead. Meanwhile, Lambert cruised through the first five innings, allowing only two hits as Curry took a 5-0 lead.  Sophomore April Adams (Burlington, Mass.) and Junior Mikayla Korona (Bellingham, Mass.) hit back-to back RBI singles in the fourth while Sophomore Jessica Saluti (Brainterr, Mass.) added a run scoring single in the fifth. Salem State got on the board in the sixth when Dahila DeCologero (Woburn, Mass.) led off with a single and following a wild pitch and stolen base scored on a single by Desiree Moreno (Ashburnham, Mass. ) to make the score 6-1. Lambert added a two-run double in the top of seventh to highlight a three-run inning for Curry. However, in the bottom of the inning Salem State scored twice as Jess Raymond (Peabody, Mass.) hit a run scoring triple to right center and scored on a passed ball to make the score 9-3. IIeish Burney (Bristol, Conn.) went four innings for the Vikings and allowed four runs (one earned) and eight hits in the loss. Rachael Cyr (Amesbury, Mass.) came on in relief in the fifth and allowed five runs (two earned) on nine hits. 

Lambert finished 4-for-5 for Curry with three RBI and Rachael Byrd (Hampstead, N.H.) added four hits. Moreno had two hits for the Vikings while DeCologero added a hit and three stolen bases.
 
Game 2
Barlow and Salem State's Meghan Black (Winchendon, Mass.) matched zero's on the scoreboard as both starting pitchers took a shutout into the sixth inning. However, the Colonels finally broke through when Adams led off with a single and following a sacrifice bunt scored on Lambert's single to left. Curry added three more runs in the top of the seventh when Adams hit a two-run single to push the lead to 3-0. An RBI groundout by Korona took the advantage to 4-0. DeCologero led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk for the Vikings, but Barlow retired the side to notch her first win of the year. Barlow went seven innings, and struck out two in the win. Black pitched well in defeat, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits with a strikeout.

Adams. Lambert, and Saluti all had multi-hit games for the Colonels. Raymond and Chloe Manousos(Lowell, Mass.) had two-hits apiece for the Vikings.        

Curry returns to the diamond on Thursday, March 31 as they host Newbury College. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
