Softball Drops the Opener But Rebounds in the Nightcap at TCCC Rival Regis
WESTON, Mass. — Regis College (9-30, 6-16 TCCC) and Curry College (17-18, 12-10 TCCC) split a doubleheader Friday afternoon, with the Pride taking the opener, 6-5, and the Colonels capturing the nightcap, 4-2.
 
The Pride’s Hope Benjamin (Rochester, Mass.) batted in teammate Molly Texeira (Rindge, NH) in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a 5-5 tie and give Regis the win in game one.
 
Regis scored its five runs in the third inning. Curry remained scoreless until Amanda Felzmann (Bellingham, Mass.) reached base on a single, and later scored. Amanda Peters (East Bridgewater, Mass.) scored Curry’s second run, and batted in Felzmann.
 
Down 5-2, Curry tacked on three runs in the seventh to tie the game. Regis pitcher Kendra Abram (Acushnet, Mass.) gave up home runs to Janelle Mayo (Worcester, Mass.) and Peters. Peters had two home runs on the day, hitting her second in the fourth inning of game two.
 
Benjamin had a two-run home run in the sixth to bring the Pride within one run of the Colonels. Peters, playing pitcher for the Colonels, struck out eight Regis batters during the doubleheader.
 
The Pride will play its final home game Saturday, April 24 at noon. Regis will host TCCC opponent Wentworth. Curry will host the University of New England at 1:00 p.m. (Game recaps courtesy of Regis College Sports Information)
