Men's Tennis Falls To Wentworth in CCC Action, 6-3

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's tennis team suffered a 6-3 loss to visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology in CCC play at the Big Nine Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon. The Leopards improve to 3-7 overall and 2-4 in CCC play while the Colonels fall to 5-9 overall and 1-5 in league play.

Wentworth opened the match with a sweep of doubles, all three being close matches. Matthew Smith (Pelham, N.H.) and Jeff Tocco (Plymouth, Mass.) edged Aidan Roach (Norwell, Mass.) and Dawson Stento (Wellesley Hills, Mass.), 9-7 at first doubles. The Leopards took the second doubles point after Seng Ly and Zach Peter topped the Curry tandem of Ryan Sullivan (Winnetka, Ill.) and Richie Hefler (Canton, Conn.) by an 8-5 final. The visitors capped the sweep of doubles when the pair of Thinh Dang (Boston, Mass.) and Alex Mularski (Auburn, Mass.) topped the Colonels pair of Ben Higgins (Yarmouth, Maine) and Zach Muller (Methuen, Mass.) by a 9-8 (0) final score.

Curry would go on to capture three singles points during that portion of play. Roach defeated Smith at number one singles by a 6-2, 6-1 final. Sullivan had a straight set victory of his own, taking down Tocco, 6-3, 6-1. Wentworth then went on to take number three singles when Ly captured the match in three sets over Stento. Stento won the first set 6-3 but Ly responded to win the second by a 6-2 score and then won the third set super tiebreak, 10-5. Peter won the fourth singles point with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Hefler while the Leopards would get their final point when Dang took down Muller 6-3, 6-1 at number five singles. Higgins took home the final point for Curry with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Mularski at sixth singles.

Curry will next play Thursday at UMass.-Dartmouth. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m. Wentworth returns to action on Saturday when they host Western New England in a home match at Regis College at 6:30 p.m.
