Men's Tennis Picks Up First Win of the Season, a 7-2 Triumph Over CCC Rival Salve Regina

MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College Men's Tennis Team captured its first win of 2014, besting Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rival Salve Regina 7-2 on Saturday afternoon in Milton. The Colonels improve to 1-9 overall and 1-2 in league play while the Seahawks slip to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in CCC action.

Curry began with a sweep of all three doubles matches. Toma Blatchford and Valvel Temin dispatched Colin Gunning and Khoa Nguyen, 8-6, at #1; Joe Berger and Eric Hellberg took care of Matthew Carroll and Monaf Awwa, 8-4, at #2; and Frank LaMotte and Lucas Donaway defeated Matt Gingras and Ned Richard, 8-6, at #3.

The Colonels followed that up by capturing four of six singles matches. Winners for the hosts included Blatchford at #1, knocking off Gunning 7-6, 6-2; Berger at #3, beating Awwa 6-1, 6-4; Donaway at #4, besting Carroll 6-1, 6-3; and Hellberg at #6, taking care of C.J. Maksut 6-0, 6-0.

Salve Regina collected its points at #2, where Nguyen handled Temin 6-2, 6-2; and at #5, where Gingras blanked Evan Fishman 6-0, 6-0.
