Men's Tennis Blanked 5-0 at CCC Rival Wentworth

BOSTON, Mass. - The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team won its Commonwealth Coast Conference opener as the Leopards took a 5-0 victory over Curry in a match played at Harvard University. The match was played to decision due to inclement weather that moved through the area.

With the win the Leopards improve to 2-0 (1-0 CCC) on the year while the Colonels fall to 0-5 (0-1).

The Leopards swept doubles play with two of the three matches being decided by 8-0 scores. Junior Dylan Melnik (Wake Forest, N.C.) teamed with sophomore Gaurav Tilva (Windsor, Conn.) to take an 8-0 win over sophomore Toma Blatchford (Westmount, Que.) and freshman Cory Flax (Potomac, Md.) at number three. Sophomore James Drum (Madison, Conn.) and freshman Matthew Smith (Pelham, N.H.) teamed to take an 8-0 win over freshman Valvel Temin (Swampscott, Mass.) and senior Lucas Donaway (Foxboro, Mass.) at number one before an 8-5 win at number two by freshman Nate Schwartz (Chester Springs, Pa.) and sophomore Josh Dowd (Bristol, Conn.) completed the doubles sweep.

After Curry defaulted at number six singles, Drum defeated Temin, 6-0, 6-3 at number one to clinch the match for the Black & Gold. The remaining four singles matches all had the hosts up one set before the rain came and ended the match.

Wentworth hosts Emerson on Monday while Curry hosts Anna Maria on Wednesday. (Recap courtesy of WIT Sports Information)
