2019 Men's Soccer Season Preview/Outlook

SCHEDULE | ROSTER

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team opens the 2019 campaign on Friday, August 30 at 6:30 p.m. as they host the Anna Maria AMCATS at Walter M. Katz Field. The program will look to return to the postseason following a two-year hiatus.

WHAT TO LOOK FORWARD TO

Curry's senior class of Paul DeMaio (North Andover, Mass.), Jared Mallers (North Easton, Mass.), Brandon Rinaldi (Bethlehem, Conn.), Austin Foley (Milford, Conn.), Ali Pungi (Kinshasa, Congo), Claudio Orsini (Watertown, Conn.), Nick Vreeland (Kensington, Conn.), Nolan Reimondo (Portland, Conn.), and Mitchell Forbes (Boxford, Mass.) will be relied upon to help guide the team this season.

The Colonels have brought in a strong recruiting class of 16 new student-athletes. The top newcomers start with Seth Blasingim (Draper, Utah). "Seth is a strong, technical midfielder," said 13th-year head coach Peter Mendel. Another newcomer is Richard Silva (Pompano Beach, Fla.). "Richard is a quick and skilled winger with the ability to beat players one-on-one," said Mendel. The final top newcomer that Mendel highlighted is Richard Savage (Rye, N.Y.). "Richard is a complete, versatile player who can play multiple positions," said Mendel.

The team brought back their leading goal scorer from last season, senior captain Claudio Orsini (Watertown, Conn.) who totaled three goals on the year and tied the team lead in points (six). Curry also returns junior Brandon Dickens (East Hartford, Conn.), who totaled two goals and a pair of assists for four points. Other top returning players include Rinaldi, another captain, who will provide veteran leadership, Mallers, a smart and hardworking defender, along with Reimondo, a crafty and technical midfield presence. Additionally, DeMaio brings experience to the goaltender position and is a vocal leader.

"We will be playing an attractive style of soccer, with a high work rate and a relentless competitive edge," said Mendel. "We hope to be in the top half of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) and get back to the conference tournament."

Mendel and the rest of the coaching staff are looking forward to a great season. "I'm very excited for this hungry, energetic, and professional staff." Assisting Mendel this season will be Mike Madden, Adam Gabbard, Ethan Trusten, Zach Watson, and Rolando Montero '16.
