Men's Soccer Topples Anna Maria, 5-1

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College Men's Soccer Team picked up a 5-1 non-conference victory over visiting Anna Maria College on Sunday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field. With the win, the Colonels improve to 5-3-1 while the Amcats slip to 1-6-1.

Curry was first to get on the board just 5:26 into the contest.  Senior Giancarlo Orsini (Watertown, Conn.) sent sophomore Brandon Rinaldi (Watertown, Conn.) a through pass who one-timed it past the glove of Anna Maria's junior keeper Mark Robinshaw (Ashford, Conn.).  The Amcats answered back three minutes later to even the match at 1-1.  This would be Anna Maria's only tally on the day.  The score came off the foot of freshman Nick Lawrence (Attleboro, Mass.).  Before the end of the half the Colonels would net the eventual game-winner for their fifth win of the season.  Orsini tallied his first of two in the match off a feed from senior Dave Stapleton (North Easton, Mass.).  Curry held a 12-6 advantage in shots.  The Colonels freshman keeper Dylan Griffin (Hornell, N.Y.) made three stops.

Curry dominated the second period as they scored three more goals for a game total of five.  Orsini struck again with help from senior Ben Silvia (Dartmouth, Mass.).  He had a game-high five points on two goals and one assists.  Freshman Alejandro Winsor (Wakefield, Mass.) netted his first collegiate goal after he collected a pass from Rinaldi and sent it to the back of the top right corner of the net.  The Colonels tacked on one more before the end of regulation when junior Christian Mancini (Woodbury, Conn.) received a pass from freshman Kuda Mulauri (Harare, Zimbabwe) and put the shot past Robinshaw.

Curry led in shots, 19-9 while also holding the edge in corners, 1-0. Griffin recorded the victory in the net, making four saves in 72:48 minutes before giving way to senior Adam DiBrina (Sudbury, Ontario) who finished the game in net without facing a shot. Robinshaw was credited with the loss while making six saves in 90 minutes.

Curry returns to the field on Wednesday when they host Westfield State at 4:00 p.m.
