Men's Soccer Edged by Endicott 2-1 in Double Overtime

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's soccer team lost to Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Endicott College, 2-1 in double overtime on Saturday afternoon at the Walter M. Katz Field. With the win the Gulls improve to 10-1-1 overall and 5-0 in the CCC.  The Colonels fell to 10-4 overall and 2-3 in the CCC.

The first half was a pretty evenly matched game.  Despite however the Colonels leading by a slight margin in shots at 7-4, the Gulls managed to put up the first score on the day.  Endicott was awarded a corner kick.  The ball got bounced around inside the 18-yard box before Brion Likaj (Salem, Mass.) one-timed it past the glove of Curry's goaltender Dan Johnson (Easton, Conn.).  The Colonels had some good chances to even out the score but solid play between the pipes by the Gulls goalkeeper Nick Weinstein (Trumbull, Conn.) kept them scoreless.

Shots were even in the second frame at 11 apiece.  The Colonels controlled most of the half while landing six of their shots on net.  Weinstein was forced to come up with some big saves to hold off Curry.  The Colonels however kept the pressure on and with just 3:23 left to play Roy Butlin (Milton, Mass.) tied the match sending the teams into overtime.  Matt Cotnoir (Longmeadow, Mass.) took a corner kick that landed the ball inside the 18-yard box.  The ball was bounced around between players until Butlin collected it and sent it over the head of Weinstein.

Curry lead in shots in the first overtime at 6-5 but managed to get only one on net.  Endicott had three on goal.  The teams couldn't capture the game-winner so with the match tied at 1-1 they headed into the second sudden death overtime.  The Colonels struck first in the second OT but the ball went high over the net.  The Gulls were able score on their only shot at the 7:23 minute mark.  Shintaroh Itoh (Nerima, Tokyo, Japan) tallied his team's game-winning goal for Endicott's tenth win of the season and fifth in the conference keeping them undefeated.

The Colonels finished with 25 shots and eight corner kicks.  The Gulls finished with 20 shots and six corner kicks.

Johnson made seven saves in net for the loss.  Weinstein made 11 stops in goal for the win.

Curry returns to action on Wednesday, October 14 when they host Bates College in a 7:00 p.m. game start.  Endicott returns to action when they host Williams on Tuesday, October 13 in a 6:00 p.m. start.
