Men's Lacrosse Wins "Golden Buoy" with Victory over Husson

SPARKS, Md. - The Curry College men's lacrosse team earned their first win of the season on Friday with a 14-3 triumph over Husson. The victory took place at the first annual New England Lacrosse Classic, played at the U.S. Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Md. With the win, the Colonels' record moves to 1-4, while the Eagles fall to 0-7.

Curry struck first in the contest, scoring five unanswered goals, all over the span of four and a half minutes in the first quarter. Jake Stebbins (Colchester, Vt.) got the scoring started before Cameron Nigro (Scarborough, Maine) notched back-to-back goals. Andrew DeLeary (Wakefield, Mass.) earned an assist on Nigro's first marker. Stebbins earned his second point of the day, assisting on a goal by Nick Perfetuo (Norwell, Mass.), before Samuel Nielsen (Fairfield, Conn.) brought the score to 5-0 on an unassisted tally with just over nine minutes to play in the opening stanza. The Eagles generated just two shots on goal in the first frame, but Mike Collins (Franklin, Mass.) was a perfect 2-for-2 in net, sending Curry into the second with a five-goal advantage.

Husson broke their silence in the second, as Gunner McAllister (Albion, Maine) scored off an assist from Gus Eisenmann (Dover, N.H.), but the Colonels answered back quickly, thanks to Stebbins' second goal of the afternoon. Over the remainder of the first half, Curry tacked on another pair of goals, including a marker from Harrison Fallon (Wrentham, Mass.) which came with just four seconds remaining on the clock.

Out of the intermission, Fallon was at it again, converting off a helper from Perfetuo and bringing the score to 9-1. The Eagles cut into the lead thanks to a marker from Aaron Lahah, but the Colonels once again responded, regaining their eight-goal edge on Nielsen's second tally. With 4:18 left to play in the third, DeLeary connected with Nigro, who made it 11-2, which would stand through the end of the quarter.

As the final frame got under way, Curry continued to extend their lead thanks to a pair of scores from Dane Hanson (East Providence, R.I.). With three minutes to play, Jaden Wells (Saco, Maine) put in Husson's final score of the day, before Nielsen found his hat trick goal, which brought the score to 14-3, the eventual final.

Nigro led all players in goals (4) and points (5), while Tyler Price (Oakdale, Conn.) picked up a game-high seven ground balls. Zachary Mozzer (Ellington, Conn.) spearheaded the Colonel defense, leading the way with a trio of caused turnovers. Both teams deployed a pair of goalies in the contest. For the Eagles, Bryan Wagg (Lewiston, Maine, 0-3) collected five saves in the first half, earning the loss, before Kyle Prior (Hartland, Vt.) brought in 13 saves in the second. On Curry's side, Collins (1-3) earns the win with seven saves in 55 minutes, while Bobby Cannan (Bernardsville, N.J.) ran the show over the final five minutes of action.

Unfortunately, following the match-up, both teams' seasons were cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
