Men's Lacrosse Rolls To Victory At Gordon, 19-6

WENHAM, Mass. – The Curry College men's lacrosse team rolled past Gordon College by a 19-6 final on Saturday afternoon at the Brigham Complex to pick up their first conference victory of the season. The win pushes the Colonels to 6-4 overall and 1-2 in the CCC while the Fighting Scots fall to 4-6 overall and 0-3 in league play.

Gordon opened the contest with an unassisted marker by Tytus Moen (Agawam, Mass.) at the 12:26 mark to go up 1-0. Curry then answered back four minutes and forty seconds later with a tally from Devin Newell (Medford, Mass.) with the assist going to Matt Serra (Haverhill, Mass.). The contest would remain tied until MJ Urbano found the back of the net with 23 seconds left in the frame to give the Colonels a 2-1 lead after one.

Curry's offense exploded in the second quarter, outscoring the Fighting Scots 8-2. Andrew DeLeary (Wakefield, Mass.) got things started with an unassisted goal while Newell scored two straight to push the lead to 5-1 with 11:54 to go before the break. Jason Dantona (Rockville Center, N.Y.) halted the Colonel run with his first goal of the game, with the assist going to Moen. Curry never let their foot off the gas pedal, closing the final 10:35 of the half on a 6-1 run to carry a 10-3 advantage into the break.

The Colonels carried their momentum right into the second half, scoring the first four goals of the frame. DeLeary, Tom Cashin (Boxford, Mass.), Newell and Urbano were all involved in the run as Curry went up 14-3. The Fighting Scots got one back at the 8:43 mark when Nick Palandjian (Belmont, Mass.) found the back of the net off an assist from Austin Early. The Colonels tallied one more goal before the end of the quarter, thanks to a Cashin marker off a Jake Stebbins (Colchester, Vt.) helper to give the Colonels an 11-goal lead after three.

Gordon was only able to close the margin to as little as 11 before the end of the contest as the Curry tallied four goals in the final frame. Stebbins picked up the first tally. Early answered back with one of his own with 10:52 to go but the Colonels got one back just five seconds later on a Zach White (Milford, Conn.) marker. Palandjian picked up the last goal for the Fighting Scots with 9:55 remaining before Newell and Cole Franklin (New Bedford, Mass.) closed the scoring in the final quarter to make the score 19-6.  

Newell led the way with five points on five goals for Curry. Cashin put up a hat trick plus two assists for five points of his own while DeLeary, Stebbins, and Serra all finished with four points each. White dominated the X, going 18-for-22 on face-offs and picking up a game-high 15 groundballs. Palandjian paced Gordon with a hat trick.

Josh Teller (Milford, Conn.) received the win in the cage for the Colonels. He made 10 saves in 48:55 minutes, facing 14 shots. Mike Collins (Franklin, Mass.) closed the game in goal, converting one save in the final 11:05. The loss was credited to Jay Gallipo (Dover, N.H.) as he made 21 saves against 40 shots.

Curry will return to the field on Tuesday, April 10 at home against Roger Williams at 7:00 p.m. Gordon will travel to Endicott for a conference contest on Wednesday, April 11 at 7:00 p.m.
