Men's Lacrosse Tripped Up By Endicott in CCC Semifinals, 12-6

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Curry men's lacrosse team saw their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament run come to an end on Wednesday night as the Colonels fell to number one seed Endicott College at Hempstead Stadium by a 12-6 final. The Gulls improve to 9-7 overall while Curry drops to 10-9 on the season.

Endicott got the scoring started, thanks to an unassisted goal just 54 seconds in from the stick of Luke Wallahan (Pleasant Hill, Calif.). The Colonels answered back at the 12:23 mark with the equalizer. Devin Newell (Medford, Mass.) found the back of the net off a pass from Chris Bronander (Glen Ridge, N.J.) to knot the game at one for the Curry.

After the Newell goal, Endicott closed the quarter on a 4-0 run to grab a 5-1 lead at the end of the first stanza. Will Jennings (Danvers, Mass.) tallied the first of his five goals with 9:29 left in the quarter with the assist going to A.J. MacDonald (New Fairfield, Conn.). Teddy Hannon (Duxbury, Mass.), Cam Goodrich (Raynham, Mass.) and Colin Bannon (Westport, Conn.) netted goals on the run.

Newell registered the first two tallies for Colonels in the second to net a hat trick. He put a shot past Grant Thompson (South Hamilton, Mass.) just 33 seconds into the quarter and then scored again with the assist going to Matt Serra (Haverhill, Mass.) to make the score 5-3 with 11:44 to go in the first half. Bannon and Andrew DeLeary (Wakefield, Mass.) traded goals before Chris Reilly (Westwood, Mass.) and Jennings each found the back of the net as the Gulls doubled up Curry at the half, 8-4.

The Colonels started the second half with two straight goals to pull within two at 8-6. DeLeary scored his second goal of the day, this time off the assist from Newell. MJ Urbano (Wakefield, Mass.) found the back of the net for Curry at the 9:51 mark of the third quarter. The assist on the Urbano goal was credited to Jack McMenomey (West Linn, Ore.) as the tally made it a two goal game.

Endicott then closed the contest on a 4-0 run with Jennings having a hand in each of the goals. He scored his first of the run at the end of the third, thanks to an assist from Kenneth Speak (Melbourne, Austrailia). The tally put the Gulls up 9-6 with one quarter to play.

Jennings then scored two straight goals to start the final quarter. The first was unassisted while the second was assisted by Bannon. Bryan McManus (Madison, Conn.) scored the final goal of the contest with just four seconds left in regulation off a helper from Jennings.

Jennings led all student-athletes with six points on five goals and one assist. Bannon finished with two goals while five others netted tallies for Endicott.

Newell paced Curry with a hat trick and an assist for four points. DeLeary had two goals while Urbano recorded one goal to close the scoring for the Colonels.
