Men's Lacrosse Triumphs Over Visiting Becker College 17-5 in Non-Conference Action

MILTON, Mass. - In a non-conference match up in men's lacrosse on Friday afternoon, Curry College defeated Becker College, 17-5. With the win, the Colonels improve to 8-0 on the season while the Hawks fall to 2-7 overall in the loss.

Curry was led by sophomore Jeffery Yates (Albany, N.Y.) who scored three goals on seven shots on goal. He was followed closely by a pair of sophomores in Matt Serra (Haverhill, Mass.) and Branden Strobel (Trumbell, Conn.)  as well as junior Jack McMenomey (West Linn, Org.) and freshmen Devin Newell (Medford, Mass.) who all recorded two goals apiece. Newell led the way with three assists and Serra finished with a pair.

Junior Daniel Johnson (Plymouth, Mass.) led Becker with a pair of goals on five shots on net. Senior Ryan Kearney (Katonah, N.Y.) led the team with two assists and added a goal on three recorded shots on net.

Five other Colonels recorded goals including freshman Wade Prajer (Southbury, Conn.) who added three points off the bench with a goal and two assists. Classmates MJ Urbano (Wakefield, Mass.) Ed Johnson (Woburn, Mass.) Zach White (Milford, Conn.) and Clay Sweitzer (Truro, Mass.) all netted a goal as well as junior Brandon Flaim (Pembroke, Mass.).

The Hawks' other goals came from junior Blake Boutiette (Burrillville, R.I.) and senior Alex Rossman (Newington, Conn.) who both recorded two shots on net as well.

Yates started the scoring off the bat with an assist from Serra who scored the next one after an assist from sophomore Tom Cashin (Boxford, Mass.) Johnson responded by putting Becker on the board before Curry scored five straight goals over the end of the first quarter and beginning of second.

Boutiette netted one for Becker before the Colonels rattled off eight straight goals over 20 minutes of the end of the second quarter and entirety of the third quarter putting the score at 15-2 after three full.

White and Strobel's final goals were sandwiched by Hawk goals as Rossman Johnson and Kearney all netted goals to bring the final score to 17-5.

Freshman Josh Teller (Milford, Conn.) saved five out of ten shots in a winning effort and sophomore Nicholas Marino (Cranston, R.I.) got the loss saving eight of 25 shots.

Curry won 52 ground balls compared to Becker's 17 and also won 19 faceoffs to the Hawk's six. The Colonels finished 22-25 on clears and Becker finished 11-14 while the shots were 41-21 in favor of the host.

Both teams return to action Wednesday as Curry travels to conference foe University of New England while the Hawks host Anna Maria with both games starting at 7 p.m.
