MILTON, Mass. - Curry College lost to Commonwealth Coast Conference visitor Western New England, 15-4, on Saturday afternoon at the Walter M. Katz Field.  The Colonels fell to 4-8 overall and 1-4 in the CCC while the Golden Bears improved to 9-4 and 5-0 in the conference.

Senior Ronald Jensen led the Colonels with two points on one goal and one assist.  Junior Joe Shea and sophomores John McMenomey and Brandon Flaim each netted one.

For the Golden Bears, senior Jon Bota and sophomore Justin Bard each finished the day with five points.  Bota netted three goals and chipped in with two assists.  Bard tallied two and helped on three. Senior Garrett Mullins and sophomore Max Berteletti each had three points on two goals and one assist.

Western New England sprung out to a 8-0 advantage in the first 15 minutes of play.  Bard was first to get on the board at the 14:30 mark.  Four of Bards five points came in the first period as he tallied two goals and two assits.  Bota had three of his five in the opening period on two tallies and a helper.  Other goal scorers were Berteletti, Mullins and junior Mike Jednak and freshman Marc Fiocco.

The Golden Bears netted the first three of the second period off the sticks of Jednak, Mullins and freshman Justin Holl.  With 5:09 left in the first half the Colonels got on the board.  Jensen sent a pass to Flaim who found the back of the net for his lone goal of the game.  Bota answered back at 2:31 to head into break with a 12-1 advantage.

Curry outscored Western New England 3-2 in the third period.  Fiocco struck first for his team at 9:45 followed by three goals by the Colonels.  Shea, McMenomey and Jensen all netted unassisted scores over a three minute span.  Berteletti found the back of the net to close out the frame off an assist by Bota. 

Western New England tallied the lone goal of the fourth enroot to their 15-4 victory.

The Golden Bears outshot the Colonels 50-31 and held a 34-31 groundball advantage. Curry went 10-22 on face-offs and 15-19 on clears. Western New England was successful on 17 of 19 clears and won 12 out of the 22 face-offs.

Curry's sophomore goaltender Shane O'Brien made five saves and allowed eight goals in 15 minutes in net before giving way to senior Dan Martin who made 14 saves allowing seven goals in 45 minutes in net. Western New England's senior goaltender Cam Gormley turned away 14 shots allowing four goals in 51:31 minutes.  Junior Jimmy Chase made two stops and freshman Steven Kerr didn't face a shot.

The Colonels are next in action on Tuesday when they host the University of New England with a start time of 7:00 pm. The Golden Bears will also be in action on Tuesday when they face Roger Williams at home starting at 7:00 pm.
