Men's Lacrosse Edges Nichols College, 10-9, for First Conference Victory

MILTON, Mass. – In a Commonwealth Coast match-up on Thursday night, Curry College defeated visiting Nichols College, 10-9, in men's lacrosse action in Milton, Mass.  With the win, the Colonels improve their overall record to 5-9 and move to 1-6 in the conference.  The Bison even fall to 2-12 overall and 0-7 in the CCC. 

Nichols to a 3-1 lead in first period.  The Bison reeled off two goals before the Colonels could put one up of their own.  Senior Brian Girard (Norwood, Mass.) struck first for the Bison followed by junior Michael Bane (North Grafton, Mass.) who netted his first of three on the night.  Senior Connor Arnold (Clifton Park, N.Y.) found an open junior Sean Ahern (Natick, Mass.) who one-timed it past Nichol's freshman netminder Peter Zygadlo (Hanover, Mass.).

The second period saw nine total goals scored.  Curry held the 5-4 edge to start.  The Colonels tallied three unanswered goals to take their first lead of the game at 4-3.  Freshman John McMenomey (West Linn, Ore.) netted an unassisted just 2:17 into the frame.  Senior Harrison Foster (Saddle River, N.J.) scored back-to-back goals one off the stick of junior Ronald Jensen (Zionsville, Ind.).  Girard tied the game back up 40 seconds later.  Five goals were scored under 2:37 minutes.  Nichols regained a goal advantage after sophomore Anthony Verville (Portland, Maine) and Bane each had unassisted tallies.  Just 31 seconds later Foster netted his third of the game followed 22 seconds later by freshman Brandon Flaim (Pembroke, Mass.), his first in his collegiate career.  With the game tied and 22 seconds left in the half, Bane netted his third to take his team into the break leading 7-6.

Six tallies were scored in the final 30 minutes of play.  Curry outscored Nichols 3-1 in the third period.  McMenomey tied the game at 7-7 but Verville was quick to score for the Bison to regain the lead.  The Colonels tied the match for the fifth time at 8-8 after Arnold assisted another Foster goal.  Freshman Kevin Vincens (Ellington, Conn.) gave Curry the lead for good with 2:19 left in the third.  Arnold scored the insurance goal in the fourth off the stick of junior Matt DeLaney (Sudbury, Mass.).  Verville netted netted his third to come within one with 4:09 left on the board but solid play by Curry's junior goaltender Daniel Martin (Pittsfield, Mass.) helped his team to their first conference win. 

The Colonels were led by Foster who had four goals for four points.  For the Bison, Verville finished with four points on three tallies and a helper.

Martin made 10 saves in net for Curry in the win.  Zygadlo also had 10 stops in net for the Bison in the loss.

Curry returns to conference action on Wednesday, April 23 as they host Endicott College in a 7:00 p.m. game.  Nichols travels to non-conference opponent Mitchell College on Saturday, April 19 for a 1:00 p.m. start.
