Men's Lacrosse Continues Winning Streak With a 15-12 Decision Over SUNY Cobleskill

MILTON, Mass. – In non-conference men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon in Milton, host Curry College remained unbeaten on the season, defeating visiting SUNY Cobleskill, 15-12. The Colonels improved to 5-0 overall, while the Fighting Tigers fell to 0-3.

Curry took a 4-1 edge after one quarter, getting a pair of scores from junior Joseph Natale (Haverhill, Mass.). Senior Sean Gallagher (Topsfield, Mass.) and freshman Ronald Jensen (Zionsville, Ind.) each netted a goal for the Colonels in the opening frame.  The Tigers junior Pete Gonzalez (West Islip, N.Y.) got the lone goal for his team. 

Cobleskill outscored Curry 4-3 in the second quarter.  The Tigers scored three straight times to end the half with the last goal netted with just two seconds remaining on the clock. Natale, senior Russell Lanham (Silver Spring, Md.) and sophomore Connor Arnold (Clifton Park, N.Y.) each had one goal for the Colonels.  Gonzalez, senior Brian Murphy (Cross River, N.Y), junior Eric Posson (Schenectady, N.Y.) and sophomore Shane Kosakowski (Bethlehem, N.Y.) each tallied a goal for Cobleskill.

Eleven combined goals were scored in the third quarter, six by the visitors and five by the hosts.  Once again the Tigers scored three unanswered to finish the frame.  Cobleskill were able to cut Curry’s lead to just one, heading into the final quarter with the Colonels leading 12-11.  Natale had another pair of scores, finishing the day with a total of five.  Gallagher netted a pair himself to earn a hat trick and Lanham scored the fifth goal of the quarter for Curry.  Senior Jeff Fichtner (Rochester, N.Y) put away three tallies for the Tigers and Posson, junior Dan Scott (West Babylon, N.Y.) and freshman Eric Ammirati (Centerport, N.Y) each scored once. 

The final frame was the lowest scoring of the day, with Curry tacking on three goals to account for the 15-12 final. Lanham scored another two and finished with four goals and one assist. Freshman John Castellano (Scarsdale, N.Y) scored his only goal of the game but chipped in with five assists.  Gonzalez netted the lone fourth quarter goal for his team to lead his team with three goals and two assists for five points. 

Natale and Castellano both lead the Colonels with six points.  Natale scoring five goals and adding one assist.  Castellano had a season-high five assists and one goal. 

Curry senior goaltender Michael Hibbard (North Chelmsford, Mass.) made15 saves to improve to a perfect 5-0 in net. Sophomore Scott Anthony (Bethlehem, N.Y.) made 14 saves for the Tigers in the loss.
 
Curry returns to action on Monday, March 19 for a 3:00 game away at Franklin Pierce.  SUNY Cobleskill resumes play on Wednesday March 21 with a 4:00 p.m. contest at Hartwick College.
