Curran, Ketola, & Octerbeck Named Joe Concannon Award Semifinalists

20TH JOE CONCANNON AWARD SEMIFINALISTS RELEASE

MILTON, Mass. — Curry College men's ice hockey student-athletes Mic Curran (Arlington, Mass.), Justin Ketola (Cloquet, Minn.), and Alex Ochterbeck (Dallas, Texas) have been named semifinalists for the 20th Joe Concannon Award, presented annually to the best American-born NCAA Division II/III college hockey student-athlete in New England. The semifinalists for the Joe Concannon Award were announced yesterday by the organization.

The Joe Concannon Award was established in 2001 shortly after the passing of the longtime writer for The Boston Globe who had a great passion for the game of college hockey while always advocating strongly for amateur athletics.

The Colonels and Trinity (Conn.) led the way with three nominees. Curran, Ochterbeck, and Ketola join a total of eight student-athletes from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), the most of any league.

Mic Curran | Forward | Sophomore | Arlington, Mass.

Curran currently paces the CCC in assists (25) and points (9 goals, 25 assists, 34 points) over 19 games played so far this season. He also has a plus-19 rating, has netted two power play goals and a team-leading four empty-net goals. In conference play, Curran has registered four goals and 17 assists for 21 points. He leads the team in both assists and points in conference-only games this season.

He ranks first in the CCC in points per game (1.75, 21 points) and in assist scoring (1.42, 17 assists), while also being tied for first in power play points (0.92, 2 goals, 9 assists, 11 points).

Nationally, Curran ranks fourth in points per game (9 goals, 25 assists, 34 points, 1.79 points per game) and third in assists per game (1.32).

Justin Ketola | Goaltender | Senior | Cloquet, Minn.

In 14 games played this season (all starts), Ketola has amassed an 8-4-2 record, a 2.27 goals against average (GAA), a .928 save percentage, and 412 saves. He currently ranks second in the CCC in save percentage and third in saves.

Alex Ochterbeck | Forward | Sophomore | Dallas, Texas

Ochterbeck ranks second on the team in points with 24 on 12 goals and 12 assists over 19 games played so far this season. He has also registered team-best plus-20 rating, has deposited two power play goals, one empty-net tally, and one game-winner. In conference action, Ochterbeck has registered eight goals and six assists for 14 points. He leads the team in goals in conference-only games this season.

He also ranks tenth in the CCC in points per game (1.17, 14 points) and second in goal scoring (0.67, 8 goals).

Curry (12-4-3, 7-3-2 CCC) hosts Western New England University on Friday, February 7 at 6:50 p.m.
