FALMOUTH, Mass. – College hockey will return to the Falmouth Ice Arena on Tuesday, November 26, when Curry College (7-1) will take on Stonehill College (1-3-1) at the Falmouth Ice Arena.
The game will be played at 6:30 PM as a fundraiser for the 10-19 Foundation. There is no charge to get into the game, but donations will be accepted at the door. The 10-19 Foundation funds local scholarships and is a memorial for James Lavin and Owen Higgins.
Stonehill will enter as the underdogs. The Skyhawks roster is made up mostly of Massachusetts-born players, including a couple that have played in the Falmouth Ice Arena before as prep players.
The name that may stand out the most to local hockey fans is former BC High all-star Kayser Raei. The former Eagles' all-scholastic was the Buddy Ferreira Classic MVP in 2016. Now a junior for Stonehill, he is one of the best players on his college team.
Raei's former high school teammate, sophomore Owen Schiffman, is another Ferreira Classic alum. Schiffman played for the Eagles in high school and now patrols the blue line for Stonehill.
Michael Seibold, a senior defenseman, opposed his current teammates during high school at Reading High, where his team also played in Falmouth at the annual February showcase.
In total, 14 Stonehill players call Massachusetts home.
Curry, on the other hand, has a roster with an international flavor. Just two Colonels hail from the Bay State. One is junior forward Michael Snow, of Medford, who is another Ferreira Classic alum, having played his high school pucks at Arlington Catholic. The other Mass native is Mic Curran, who helped lead Arlington High School to the 2017 MIAA Division 1 state championship.
The rest of the Curry roster is all over the map. Along with the Massachusetts residents, it has pairs from Connecticut, Minnesota and California, and individuals from New York, Maine, Texas, Michigan, North Dakota, North Carolina, and New Hampshire. Two of the Colonels hail from Finland, and Head Coach TJ Manastersky has recruited players from Hungary, Russia, Sweden, and Slovakia as well.
This will be the second-ever college game played at the Falmouth Ice Arena. In 2017 Babson and Salem State played the first Division III college game ever at the rink.
