MILTON, Mass.- In an ECAC Northeast Conference match-up in men's ice hockey action on Saturday evening at the Max Ulin Rink in Milton, Mass., Curry College tied Johnson & Wales, 1-1 in overtime. The tie moves the Colonels to 0-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the ECAC Northeast.  The Wildcats moved to 2-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the ECAC Northeast conference.

Curry and Johnson & Wales battled each other through a scoreless 40 minutes of play.  The first period saw the teams even in shots at 9-9.  The Wildcats had four power-play opportunities while the Colonels had two but they couldn't capitalize.  Johnson & Wales held the slight advantage in shots in the second at 15-12 however Curry had the lead in man-up chances, 3-1.  Solid play by both netminders kept the score at 0-0 heading into the final stanza.  Through two periods, the Colonels junior goaltender Brett Sinclair (St. Catharines, Ontario) had 24 saves and the Wildcats junior goaltender Joey Ballmer (Kalamazoo, Mich.) made 21 stops.

Johnson & Wales took the lead just 1:09 into the final stanza.  The Wildcats won the opening face-off and skated into the Colonels defensive zone. Junior Fran Mackin (Philadelphia, Pa.) sent the puck to junior Michael Mazzotta (Mars, Pa.) who found an open freshman Jonathan Ruiz (Williamstown, N.J.) just outside the crease.  Ruiz one-timed it past the glove of Sinclair for the go-ahead goal.  Despite Johnson & Wales outshooting Curry 16-8, Sinclair played strong in net making some tough saves and the Colonels continued to battle hard.  At the 13:05 minute mark a player from each team was called for a penalty leaving them to play 4-4.  Just 43 seconds later, Curry tied the game.  A Wildcats defender tried to make a pass out of their defensive zone but the Colonels intercepted the pass at the blueline.  Junior Ellery O'Hara (Toronto, Ontario) won the puck, earning his first goal of the season and tying the game after he took a slap shot that sailed over the head of Ballmer.  Neither squad could find the back of the net for the game-winner sending them into overtime.

Curry controlled most of the five minutes of overtime firing off five shots on net forcing Ballmer to make the stops.  Johnson & Wales had two shots on net both saved by Sinclair.  Time expired after 65 minutes of play ending in with the 1-1 tie.

Curry went 0-8 on power plays while Johnson & Wales was 0-7.  The Wildcats finished with a game-high 42 shots and the Colonels 34.

Curry's Sinclair made an impressive 41 saves in net for the Colonels.  Ballmer had 33 stops in net for Johnson & Wales.  

Curry returns to action on Thursday, November 12 when they host ECAC Northeast opponent Becker College in a 6:45 p.m. game start.
