Men's Basketball Topped by Western New England in CCC Play, 86-54

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College men's basketball team dropped an 86-54 decision to visiting Western New England University on Saturday afternoon in conference play. With the win, the Golden Bears move to 6-17 overall and a 4-12 mark in the CCC. The Colonels fall to 1-22 overall and 0-16 in conference action.

Curry started the contest on a 7-0 run following two threes by Dashawn Williams (New Haven, Conn.) and a free throw by John Coleman (Warwick, R.I.). The run would be matched by Western New England as they would tie the game at seven on a layup by Nana Appiah (Patterson, Calif.).

The two teams would exchange the lead over the next minute of action before the Golden Bears began to distance themselves from the Colonels. With 13:32 remaining in the first half, Mikey Pettway (Bridgeport, Conn.) gave Western New England a 16-10 lead. Curry would answer right back with a three of their own from Williams to trim the early deficit to just three.

Following the basket by Williams the Golden Bears would embark on a 18-0 run that spanned 5:37 of game time to build a 34-13 lead. Kieran Carroll (Greenwich, Conn.) would halt the run for Western New England on an and-one to make the score 34:16 with less than five minutes left in the first half.

The Colonels would then go on a 9-0 run started by the and-one from Carroll to trim the deficit to 12 at 34-22 with 58 seconds to go in the first stanza.

A three by Daniels Silva (Seekonk, Mass.) and a layup by Mike Gelineau (Waltham, Mass.) pushed the lead back up to 17 as Western New England entered the intermission with a 39-22 lead.

The Golden Bears lead would eclipse 20 points in the early stages of the second half. Gelineau knocked down a three to push the lead to 23 with 16:41 left in regulation. The deficit for the Colonels would eventually hit 30 on a layup by Reid Killeen (Amawalk, N.Y.).

Curry's deficit would extend to 31 with 9:51 to go after Cole Eiber (Albertson, N.Y.) converted a three to make the score 68-37.

Ryan Beatty (Rochester, Mass.) would answer back with a three of his own for Curry to trim the lead to 28. But the deficit for the Colonels quickly reached 30 once again and would reach 40 points with 4:04 left on two free throws by Eiber.

Curry would end the game on a 10-2 run, but the Golden Bears would capture the conference game by an 86-54 final.
