Men's Basketball Knocks Off Visiting Wesleyan, 68-60, in Non-League Play

MILTON, Mass. - Curry College senior Antonio Jones (Dorchester, Mass.) poured in a game-high 28 points, as the host Colonels outdistanced Wesleyan University, 68-60, in non-conference men's basketball action Saturday night in Milton. Curry improved to 2-3 overall, while the Cardinals fell to 4-2 on the season.

The Colonels took their largest lead (32-16) of the first period after Jones sank a three-pointer with 3:45 on the clock. Wesleyan trimmed the deficit to 12 (36-24) entering intermission, as junior BJ Davis (Hamden, Conn.) sank a buzzer-beater from beyond the arc.

Curry claimed a 15-point advantage (50-35) as Jones sank his fifth three-pointer of the game with 11:24 left in regulation. The Cardinals answered with a 25-13 run, capped off with a three-pointer by sophomore Harry Rafferty (Dubuque, IA) to pull to within three (63-60) with 1:42 remaining on the clock. Over the remainder of the game, the Colonels sank 5-of-6 attempts from the charity stripe while holding Wesleyan scoreless, to account for the 68-60 final.

Along with 28 points and five three-pointers from Jones, senior Matt Russell (South Portland, Maine) recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game-best 10 rebounds. Sophomore Paul Preziosi (Quincy, Mass.) chipped in with 11 points.

Davis paced the Cardinals with a team-high 14 points. Sophomore Joseph Kuo (New York, N.Y.) added 11 points and eight rebounds, while Rafferty contributed with 13 points.

The Colonels return to action on Wednesday for their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener, hosting CCC rival Western New England at 7:30 p.m., while Wesleyan travels to MCLA on Monday for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
