Men's Basketball Outdistanced by Visiting CCC Rival Gordon, 70-57

MILTON, Mass. – Gordon College outdistanced Curry College, 70-57, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball action Saturday afternoon in Milton. The Fighting Scots improved to 12-8 on the season and 10-4 in league action, while the Colonels fell to 4-17 and 3-11 in CCC play.

Curry took its largest lead of the game (22-17) after senior A.J. Stephens (Stamford, Conn.) split a pair from the charity stripe with 7:39 left in the first frame. Gordon senior Alex Carnes (Phoenix, Ariz.) sank two free throws to tie the game for the eighth time at 32-32 with 1:15 remaining in the first period. Classmate Park Thomas (Scottsdale, Ariz.) followed with two made free throws, giving the Fight Scots a two-point advantage (34-32) heading into intermission.

With 8:31 left in regulation, Gordon built its largest lead of the game (63-46) freshman Dominic Paradis (Rochester, N.H.) made a pair of free throws. The Colonels trimmed the lead to 12 (67-55) after senior Thomas McLean (Paxton, Mass.) made a layup with 3:53 on the clock. Curry couldn't pull any closer, as the Fighting Scots maintained their lead, en route to the 70-57 final.

Thomas led Gordon with a team-high 15 points. Junior Hans Miersma (Whitinsville, Mass.) recorded a double-double with 11 points and a game-best 12 rebounds. Paradis and Carnes added 14 and 12 points, respectively.

The Colonels were led by junior Antonio Jones (Dorchester, Mass.) with a game-high 20 points. Senior Lambros Papalambros (Quincy, Mass.) chipped in with 14 points, while Stephens pulled down a team-best six boards.

Both teams return to CCC action on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., as the Colonels host Roger Williams, while the Fighting Scots travel to the University of New England.
