Defense Leads Men's Basketball to Dominant 66-38 Road Win at UNE
BIDDEFORD, Maine - Senior Sedale Jones (Pittsfield, Mass.) and junior Lambros Papalambros (Quincy, Mass.) scored 16 points apiece to power Curry College to a 66-38 victory over the University of New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference men's basketball game Tuesday (Jan. 29) evening at the Harold Alfond Forum.

Curry solidified its hold atop the CCC standings, upping its overall mark to 13-6 (10-2 CCC). The Nor'easters now stand at 4-15 overall, 3-9 in league play.

Jones grabbed seven rebounds and added three steals to his 16 points, while Papalambros connected on 6 of 11 shots from the floor and pilfered six steals. Junior A.J. Stephens (Stamford, Conn.) came off the bench to contribute 12 points and a game-high nine boards, while sophomore Matthew Russell (South Portland, Maine) scored 10 points on 5 of 8 accuracy from the field.

Freshman Devin Thompson (Winthrop, Mass.) was the lone UNE player in double figures with 13 points.

With the score tied at 14 midway through the first half, Curry reeled off 14 unanswered points over the ensuing three minutes to grab a 28-14 advantage. Jones hit a pair of three-pointers to help fuel the outburst.

Curry would go on to lead 36-21 at intermission.

The Colonels continued to pour it on after halftime, scoring the first six points out of the locker room as they cruised the rest of the way.

Curry shot 43.5 percent (27 of 62) for the game -- compared to 26 percent (13 of 50) for UNE. The visitors led in rebounds (43-31) and turned the ball over just 12 times. They also outscored UNE in the paint, 34-6.

Both teams return to action Thursday with CCC home games. Curry hosts Roger Williams University, and the Nor'easters face Gordon College. Each game is slated to tip at 7:30 p.m. (Game recap courtesy of UNE Sports Information)
