MILTON, Mass. - On Senior Day, host Curry fell to by a final of 49-33 to New England Football Conference (NEFC) foe Endicott Saturday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field in Milton. In the season finale for both schools, the Colonels finished the year at 3-6 overall and 1-6 in NEFC action. The Gulls wrap up their campaign at 5-5 overall and 5-2 in league play.
After Curry won the coin toss and deferred to the second half Endicott went down the field 38 yards in 3:33 to set up to put the first points on the scoreboard with a field goal attempt by John Glaser (East Moriches, N.Y.). The freshman kicker pushed the 31-yard attempt wide right to keep the game scoreless in the early going. Following an eight-play drive by Curry that saw the Colonels convert one third down the Gulls would get the ball right back. However, Endicott would give it right back after Joe Kalosky (Plymouth, Conn.) threw a pass that was intercepted by senior Sean Conroy (Hampstead, N.H.) and returned 28 yards to the house to give Curry the 6-0 advantage. The extra point from Marc Mrozek (Stratford, Conn.) was no good, so the score remained 6-0.
Endicott responded with a seven-play, 73 yard drive that tied the game up at 6 after Michael Scherer (Middlefield, Conn.) scampered in from two yards out. The point after gave the Gulls the 7-6 lead.
The second quarter of action saw a combined 35 points. The Gulls played got the scoring started after Kalosky ran it in from eight yards out to cap a 10 play, 99 yard drive. The extra point put Endicott in front 14-6. Curry answered right back with a five-play 59 yard drive, finished off by a seven yard run by D'Aundray Burcy (Hyde Park, Mass.). The touchdown and point after trimmed the deficit to just one at 14-13.
Later in the stanza, the Colonels scored the second touchdown in a row following a fumble recovery by Aiden Cawley (Abington, Mass.) Curry drove 40 yards on only four plays to eventually find the end zone with Dylan Vieira-Owens (Everett, Mass.) on a 32-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Alex Corvese (Cranston, R.I.) to give the Colonels the 20-14 lead.
The back-and-forth quarter saw another lead change when Endicott rallied off a seven-play, 61 yard drive finished off by a two yard run by Hakim Fleming (Bridgeport, Conn.). The point after by Glaser gave the Gulls the 21-20 advantage. Endicott tacked on one more score before the end of the first half on a 16-yard pass from Kalosky to Thomas Connors (Amesbury, Mass.) to make the score 28-21.
The third quarter saw one score apiece from each team. Corvese capped off a 10-play, 69 yard drive on 30 yard touchdown pass to Jake Cawlina (Danvers, Mass.). But later in the frame, Fleming scored his second touchdown on the day to Endicott the 35-28 advantage.
The final quarter of action saw three touchdowns: two from the Gulls, one from Curry to make the final score 49-33.
The Colonels were led offensively by Corvese who threw 20 completions on 29 attempts for 220 yards, two scores and one interception. He also amassed 23 yards on the ground on 11 carries and another score.
Chad Kidd (Natick, Mass.) and Burcy led the ground game with 50 and 27 yards, respectively. Burcy also added one touchdown.
Cawlina paced the receiving corps with 102 yards and a score while catching six passes. Anthony Nastasi (River Edge, N.J.) added eight catches for 56 yards.
Defensively, Cawley led Curry with six solo tackles and added two assisted tackles. Steven Grogan (Forestdale, Mass.) was not far behind with seven tackles.
The Gulls were paced by Kalosky who threw for 334 yards on 17-for-35 with an two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also ran for 19 yards on five carries and a touchdown, but Lavante Wiggins (Pittsfield, Mass.) led the ground game with 73 yards on 13 carries.
Defensively, senior Christian Martinez (Tariffville, Conn.) paced all players with 16 tackles. William Rivera (Orangeburg, N.Y.) recorded the second most tackles for the Gulls, tallying nine.
The loss ends the season for the Colonels.
