Cheerleaders Place 4th at NCA Collegiate National Championship

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Curry College Cheerleaders made history by finishing fourth at the 2014 NCA Collegiate Cheer Championship for All-Girl Division III, held on April 9-13 in Daytona Beach, Florida.

They came out on Day 1 and competed against 12 other teams to land a spot on the Finals mat for Day 2. They competed against Bridgewater State University, Montclair State University, Elmira College, Framingham State University, Stevenson University Competitive Cheer, Eastern Connecticut State University, Buffalo State, SUNY Cortland, Widener University, Endicott College, Ithaca College and New York University.

They received the highest raw score for Day 1 that Curry Cheerleading has ever received (87.63) but with deductions they were too low to get one of the spots on the Finals Mat. That meant that they would compete one more time to try for first place and the last spot for Finals.

Coach Nicole Bello made some minor changes to their routine to head back to the competition mat and hopefully secure that final spot. The Curry Cheerleaders then proceeded to take home 1st place with a perfect routine hit and earned the chance to compete on the Band Shell.

The team was in 12th place in the middle of Day 1 and moved to 8th place by taking the 1st place spot at the 2nd competition with a score of 89.53.

The team took the Finals mat on Friday late afternoon and they showed everyone why they were meant to be there, hitting another prefect routine with a score of 89.83 which landed the Curry Cheerleaders in 4th place for the first time ever.

"This team was a family from Day 1 at tryouts last May and has continued to be a family," said Bello. "That is what led them to this amazing success. Assistant Coach Kristin Schmauder and I could not have asked for a better way to end our season and this journey we have had with all of them, especially our seven seniors. We know that we had a special angel watching over us the entire time."
