AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Curry College baseball team took two games over Penn State Brandywine with on Monday morning, winning by final scores of 9-8 and 7-0 at Lake Myrtle Park.

Game One – Curry 9, Penn State Brandywine 8

The Lions began to chip away at the lead and cut the deficit to four (9-5) at the end of the frame. Joe Hurley (Dowingtown, Pa.), Cam Baughman (Oxford, Pa.), and Hayden Altimari (Dix Hills, N.Y.) contributed hits in the inning which drove in runs.

Penn State Brandywine tacked on three more in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to find the equalizer late. Junior Philip Ledwith (Old Saybrook, Conn.) converted the save on the hill to preserve the win for Curry. The win was credited to senior James Mello (Fall River, Mass.)

The Colonels were led by senior captain Adam Duarte (East Providence, R.I.), who finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish with an RBI and a run scored.

Game Two – Curry 7, Penn State Brandywine 0

Curry completed the sweep behind a shutdown performance on the hill from sophomore Nick Kavrakis (Southwick, Mass.), who tossed a complete game four-hitter. He struck out eight and walked only two in his first appearance of the season.

The Colonels scored first on a single to left field from sophomore captain Jason Leonard (Dedham, Mass.), which helped score senior Jared Keller (Oxford, Conn.). Leonard was back in the action in the fourth when he blasted his second home run over the season over the left field fence.

Curry did the rest of its damage in the sixth, tallying five runs. That was enough for Kavrakis as he was able to preserve the shutout.

Leonard and freshman John Trevino (Edinburg, Texas) paced the offense with two hits each.
