Late Charge Sends ENC Past Baseball

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College baseball team lost a non-conference contest to visiting Eastern Nazarene College on Tuesday afternoon at the Jack Vallely Diamond. The win sends the Lions to 11-11 overall while the loss drops the Colonels to 7-14-1 overall.

The game remained scoreless through eight innings and Eastern Nazarene pulled out in front in the top of the ninth. Senior Matthew Urena (Flushing, N.Y.) was the first Lion to get aboard via a walk. Junior Anthony Castrogiovanni (Bohemia, N.Y.) doubled down the left field line, advancing Urena to third. With two on, senior Connor Simpson (Haverhill, Mass.) drove in the contest's first run on a single to left field, bringing home Urena.

The Lions extended the lead in the next at-bat as senior Anthony Esposito (Mount Royal, N.J.) hit a deep fly ball to right field. Curry junior Jared Keller (Oxford, Conn.) misplayed the ball, which allowed three runs to score to put Eastern Nazarene up 4-0, the eventual final.

Urena paced the Lions with two hits in three plate appearances with one run scored. Five other Eastern Nazarene student-athletes registered a hit apiece to round out the column.

Senior Michael Strizzi (Williamstown, Mass.) led the Colonels, going a perfect 2-for-2 at the dish. Freshman Julian Jaume (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Jason Leonard (Dedham, Mass.), sophomore Dylan Ketterer (Plymouth, Mass) and Garrett Fosher (Exeter, N.H.) closed out the hit column for the Curry.

Junior Daniel Rivera (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) recorded the win on the hill for ENC. He tossed the final two innings and allowed two hits, while striking out three.

Freshman Nick Kavrakis (Southwick, Mass.) took with the loss for the Colonels, lasting two innings. He allowed four runs (one earned) on two hits while striking out one and walking three.
