MILTON, Mass. - The Curry College baseball team swept a doubleheader against visiting Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rival Eastern Nazarene on Saturday afternoon in Milton. The Colonels won the opener, 8-4, then plated a two-out run in the bottom of the seventh to capture the nightcap, 4-3. Curry is now 9-5 overall and 2-1 in league play. The Lions fall to 6-16 overall and 0-8 in CCC action.

GAME 1

In the opener, the Colonels got a two-run single from sophomore Nick Crivello in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead. Senior Derek Pizarro followed with an RBI single, then freshman William De La Cruz stroked a two-run double down the left-field line, giving the hosts a 5-0 cushion.

Eastern Nazarene cut the deficit to one with a four-run top of the third. The rally included an RBI single by sophomore Cameron Fiorentino, and a sacrifice fly by senior Pat Yee.

The Lions were shut down the rest of the way by Curry senior starter Thomas Fitzpatrick, who tossed a complete-game five hitter to improve to 3-0 on the season. In seven innings, he walked one while striking out 10. Crivello went 4-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored.

Freshman Brent Houle took the loss to fall to 2-4. He tossed 3.1 innings, allowing five hits, five earned runs, and two walks, while striking out four.

GAME 2

In the nightcap, the Colonels took a 3-0 lead by plating three runs in the bottom of the third. Sophomore Alex McLean doubled down the left-field line, bringing home junior John Arens and Pizarro. Junior Kyle Connors scored the final run of the frame on an error.

Eastern Nazarene came back with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. Junior Kurt Picarelli doubled to left field, plating Yee and freshman John Oglesby. The Lions tied the game in the top of the seventh on an RBI base-hit by junior Justin Wagner.

In the bottom of the seventh, sophomore starter Frank Fusco was lifted in favor of Fiorentino, who intentionally walked junior Philip Perez before Crivello stroked a two-out walk-off single to the outfield fence that scored Connors with the winning run.

Curry freshman starter David Griffin (3-0) went the distance, surrendering four hits, two earned runs, and two walks while striking out seven. Fusco threw 6.1 innings, giving up just one hit, two earned runs, and four walks, while fanning four. His record fell to 1-5 on the season.

The Colonels travel to Roger Williams on Sunday for a CCC twinbill starting at noon. The Lions resume play on Monday, hosting Clark University in a 3:30 p.m. contest.
