Baseball Wraps Up Eight-Game Spring Break Schedule with a 5-3 Record

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Curry College baseball team was edged 3-1 by Pittsburgh-Greensburg on the final day of their Spring Break trip, but still posted a 5-3 record during their week in Central Florida.

Against the Bobcats, Colonels' freshman hurler Mike Reiher (Ramsey, N.J.) surrendered single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings, while the Curry's explosive offense was held at bay by Pitt-Greensburg pitcher Cory Deighan, who struck out 11 in a complete-game, nine-inning effort.

The Colonels finally dented the scoreboard in the top of the ninth, as junior Tanner Givens (Hamden, Conn.) scored on an RBI groundout by freshman Brian Burke (Swampscott, Mass.).

Reiher went the first 4 2/3 innings, giving up five hits, four walks and three earned runs while fanning seven. Three Curry relievers combined to go the final 3 1/3, with freshmen Vincent LoPriore (Boston, Mass.) and Ben Riordan (Holbrook, Mass.), and junior Travis Levesque (Middleboro, Mass.) keeping the Bobcats scoreless on just two total hits.

Freshmen Tyler Armstrong (Gilbert, Ariz.) and Alex McLean (Eliot, Maine) turned in the only multi-hit efforts for the Colonels, who head north with an overall record of 5-6.
