Abare is in his seventh season on the Curry staff and will coach the squad’s wide receivers.

A native of Acton, Mass., he attended Acton-Boxborough High School and was an offensive guard and linebacker on the school’s football squad. Abare earned honors as a Dual County All-Star and was selected to play in the Lowell North-South All-Star Game.

He went on to attend the University of Connecticut, graduating in 1979 with a B.S. in Marketing. He was also an offensive guard on the Huskies’ football team.

Abare founded the Acton-Boxborough Youth Football Program in 1979, and continued to serve as a board member and coaching coordinator through 1986. From 1994-2000, he served as a board member and coach for the Acton-Boxborough Pop Warner Football Program. Abare’s most recent coaching stint was at his high school alma mater. From 2001-2012, he served as the Colonials freshman football head coach, as well as a varsity assistant coach working with linebackers, defensive ends, quarterbacks and running backs.

In May of 2014, Abare retired from his position as national sales manager with MetLife/Travelers Insurance Company after 35 years to pursue his passion for coaching. He and his wife Suzy have three sons: Mike, Bobby, and Larry. All three played high school football, with Bobby and Larry playing in the collegiate ranks as well. Abare currently resides in Methuen, Mass.
