HARRISVILLE, R.I. – Curry College men's ice hockey senior captain Jordan Williamson (Okotoks, Alberta) scored 1:25 into overtime to lift the Colonels past Nichols College, 3-2, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Friday night at Levy Rink.
Williamson buried the game-winning goal near-post as junior Michael Snow (Medford, Mass.) sent the puck around the back of the net. Freshman Nicholas Favaro (Vaughn, Ontario) was credited with the secondary assist. Williamson took the puck to the corner, changed direction, and put a shot on goal which trickled past the Bison sophomore netminder Brett Epp (Edmonton, Alberta).
Nichols netted the lone goal of the opening period on a marker by senior Nicholas Mangone (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) with 10:09 to play. The helpers were awarded to senior David Chevrier (Baie-D'urfe, Quebec) and junior Evan Nyhus (Dove Canyon, Calif.). The Bison held a 12-10 shot advantage after the first frame.
After a scoreless second, the Colonels found the back of the twice compared to once for Nichols in the final stanza to send the contest into overtime. Sophomore Mic Curran (Arlington, Mass.) deposited his 11th goal of the season, this time of the unassisted variety 6:21 into the third. Sophomore Justin Perron (Thetford Mines, Quebec) put the Bison back out in front just 1:27 later. Freshman Hunter Fraser (Grafton, Mass.) and graduate student J.B. Baker (Columbia, Md.) registered the assists on the tally. Curry found the equalizer on a goal from sophomore Nick-Magill-Diaz (Troy, Mich.) with 1:20 remaining in regulation. The Colonels had pulled junior goaltender Cody Murch (Raleigh, N.C.) to gain the extra skater and capitalized on the scoring chance. Senior Billy Vizzo (Shelton, Conn.) picked up the helper as the contest headed into the extra session.
Williamson's fourth goal of the season was the difference in overtime to help Curry improve to 17-4-3 overall (12-3-2 CCC).
Nichols finished the game with a slight 30-29 edge in shots. Both squads were 0-for-3 on the power play.
Murch recorded 28 saves in to remain perfect on the season (3-0-0). Epp made 26 stops in the setback.
Curry will close out the regular season tomorrow, February 22 at home against Endicott College. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:50 p.m. on Senior Day. Prior to the game, the Colonels will honor its five seniors in a pregame ceremony. Nichols closes the regular season at 11-12-2 overall (8-8-2 CCC) and will await the CCC Tournament release later this weekend for its next opponent.
