Cross Country Places 6th at the Pop Crowell Invitational at Gordon College

WENHAM, Mass.—The University of New England took home the 44th annual Pop Crowell Invitational with a team score of 18. UNE's Tiana Thomas (Waterville, Maine) set a blistering pace in the women's 5k finishing with a time of 18:28.

The Nor'easter women remained undefeated on the year by taking their third straight meet victory to begin the 2015 season. Despite missing standout runner Brittney Sorbello, the Nor'easters had seven runners cross the line out of the top 10 finishers. They put plenty of distance between themselves and second-place finisher, Gordon, with 18 points.

The Colonels finished in 6th place out of the 11 teams competing.  Curry was led by senior Leigha Sweeney (Braintree, Mass.) who placed 45th with a time of 22:06.  Sweeney was followed by sophomore Victoria Gately (Hanson, Mass.) who placed 49th with a time of 22:14.  Following Gately were juniors Lydia Hixson (West Hartford, Conn.), 22:17 (51st), Meghan Macleod (Brewster, Mass.), 22:56 (58th), Emilee Purdy (Franklin, Mass.), 24:14 (76th), freshman Sarah Volack (North Stonington, Conn.), 25:09 (91st) and sophomores Abby Ryan (Swampscott, Mass.), 28:44 (117th) and Christina Garcia (Bayville, N.Y.), 29:59 (122nd).  Four runners including Gately, Hixson, Ryan and Garcia earned their personal best times on the day.

Curry heads to Westfield, Mass. for the James Early Invitational on Saturday October 10 at 12:00 p.m.
