Four Women's Cross Country Runners Earn Personal Best Times at the James Earley Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass.  – Williams College, the 10th ranked team in the country in the USTFCCA coaches' poll, won the women's race at the 19th Annual James Earley Invitational at Stanley Park on Saturday.

Williams finished with 59 points, Vassar was second with 120, followed by the University of New England (130), Smith College (168) and Westfield State (189).

A total of 424 runners contested the race in a light drizzle after heavier rains fell earlier in the morning.

The Colonels had seven runners place this morning with four earning personal best times. Curry was led by freshman ElizaMarie Quinn-Alger (Harwinton, Conn.) who placed 150th with a time of 21:36.  Quinn-Alger was followed by senior Jessica Leary (Pembroke, Mass.) who not only earned a personal best time of 21:57 (168th), but also came in second on the team for the first time this season.  Following Leary were two other personal best finishers, freshman Victoria Gatley (Hanson, Mass.), 22:27 (209th) and sophomore Lydia Hixson (West Hartford, Conn.), 22:39 (219th).  Junior Leigha Sweeney (Braintree, Mass.) placed 222nd with a time of 22:40.  Freshman Hannah Wells (Whitman, Mass.) was next with a personal best time of 23:20 and a 265th placement and in seventh was sophomore Meghan MacLeod (Yarmouthport, Mass.) who came in 331st place with a time of 24:32.

The Colonels will next compete at the Western New England Invitational next Saturday, October 18 at 10:30 a.m. (Race Recap Courtesy of Westfield State Sports Information).
