Cross Country Earns First Place in Lt. Travis J. Fuller Invitational at Mass. Maritime

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Freshman ElizaMarie Quinn-Alger's (Harwinton, Conn.) runner-up finish paced four individuals in the top 10 and led Curry to the team title of the 10th Annual Massachusetts Maritime Lt. Travis J. Fuller Women's Cross Country Invitational that took place Saturday morning along the banks of the Cape Cod Canal on the Academy's campus.

Quinn-Alger covered the 3.1 mile layout in a time of 20:22 to pace the Colonels, who posted a score of 35 points in claiming their first-ever team championship in the event.  Junior Leigha Sweeney (Braintree, Mass.) and senior Jessica Leary (Pembroke, Mass.) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, for Curry with times of 21:33 and 22:29, while sophomore Lydia Hixson (West Hartford, Conn.) and freshman Hannah Wells (Whitman, Mass.) rounded out the Colonel scoring by posting respective 10th and 14th place times of 23:37 and 24:23.

Emerson senior Ali Dokus (Littleton, Mass.) captured her second individual crown in three years with a winning time of 19:33, as she led the Lions to the runner-up spot in the team competition with a score of 46 points.  Freshmen Nina Desilva (Edwardsville, Pa.) and Cristina Ashbaugh (San Mateo, Calif.) added respective seventh and ninth place finishes for Emerson with times of 23:09 and 23:29.

Suffolk finished third in the team standings with a score of 75 points, as senior Kelly Warwick (Newburyport, Mass.) and Sara Middleton paced the Rams with respective sixth and eighth place times of 22:56 and 23:17.  Mount Ida, which was led by freshman Jessica Roberts' (Mendon, Mass.) third place finishing time of 20:42, was fourth in the competition with 87 points, while host Massachusetts Maritime rounded out the team scoring with 101 points.  Eastern Nazarene and Newbury did not post team scores in the event.

The host Buccaneers were paced by junior Shavonne Boyle (Doylestown, Pa.), who posted a 13th place time of 24:05 in her first collegiate race.  Freshmen Julia Staula (Sharon, Mass.) and Kaylene Murphy (Randolph, Mass.) followed in 21st and 22nd place, respectively, with times of 25:35 and 25:47, while freshman Lexy Halpin (Plymouth, Mass.) and junior Dominique Dertien (Panama City, Fla.) rounded out the scoring with respective 24th and 35th place times of 25:50 and 27:43.
