Women's Cross Country Finishes Seventh at the University of New England Invitational

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England invitational began as a cloudy drizzly day that matriculated into a ray of sunshine that hovered over the skyline of rolling hills in the valley of Biddeford, Maine.  The athletes competed in a race of narrow brushes on several intervals of slippery mole hills, after a torrential down pour the proceeding night.  Curry competed at the UNE race for the first time and placed 7th out of a field of 15 highly competitive championship teams, placing the top scorers in top 51st places out of a field of 137 runners.

Leading the pack was Curry's sophomore Leigha Sweeney (Braintree, Mass.) who finished 32nd, with a time of 22:49, followed by a trail of three consecutive runners that ran in a pack.  Following Sweeney was junior Jessica Leary (Pembroke, Mass.), 43rd, with a time of 23:55, coupled with freshman Abigail Ceresi (North Kingstown, R.I.), 44th, with a time of 23:49, followed by sophomore Megan Erickson (West Brook, Conn.), 45th, with a time of, 24 minutes flat.  The final team scorer within close proximity in the field was freshman Lydia Hixson (West Hartford, Conn.), 51st, with a time of 24:48.  The final finishers that competed with great effort were freshmen Emilee Purdy (Franklin, Mass.),58th, with a time of 26:05, along with Shannon Hickey (Salem, N.H.), 62nd, with a time of 26:51.
