Mathews Recognized as CCC Scholar-Athlete, Colonels Pick Up League Sportsmanship Award

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior captain Shea Mathews (Concord, N.H.) of the Curry College women's volleyball team has been recognized with the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. In addition, the Colonels earned the CCC Team Sportsmanship Award, as announced by the league office Monday night in its year-end awards release.

Mathews is a public health major with a 3.75 GPA and the captain of the Colonels volleyball team. She is very involved on-campus as a 2020 Class Representative for the Student Government Association, Curry SAAC, and an ambassador for the Global Leadership Academy. Along with her major, Mathews is also working on minors in biology, psychology, and youth recreation and sports. She has a certification in Irish Cultural Heritage Studies from the National University of Ireland Maynooth and is a certified nursing assistant. She works in both admissions and the athletic department and despite all her extracurricular activities will be graduation a semester early. Following graduation, she will enter Boston University's Master in Public Health program.

Curry finished the season with a 13-13 overall record with a 1-7 mark in the CCC. The Colonels set the program record for most wins, best winning percentage in a season, and secured the first .500 season in program history.
