LEICESTER, Mass. – The Curry College women's volleyball team swept the Hawks of Becker College on Tuesday evening to win their fourth straight match and improve to 6-3. With the victory, the Colonels are off to their best start since the 2012 season (7-2). After the home defeat, Becker falls to 5-3.

The Hawks got out to a hot start, building a 9-5 lead after a kill by Ariana Gordon (Brockton, Mass.). Curry turned the momentum around, however, as a five-point run, which included kills from three different players, gave them the 15-12 edge. The teams stayed close in score, but after a Curry attack error pulled Becker to within two at 20-18, the Colonels regrouped to score five of the next seven and take the first set by a score of 25-20.

The second set was closely contested early on, but Curry broke a 6-6 tie with six straight points, which started an 11-3 run. After a pair of Becker points pulled them to within four at 19-15, Curry benefitted from two errors by the Hawks in three plays, which made it 21-16. The hosts gave the Colonels a scare, bringing the score as close as 22-20, but Curry once again showed their resiliency late in sets and pushed three points to take another set by a 25-20 margin.

After two tight games to open the contest, the Colonels exploded to score 12 of the first 13 points in the third frame, taking an early 11-point advantage. The Hawks attempted to claw back, getting the score to within six at 14-8, but that would be the closest they could muster as Curry kept them at a safe distance and closed the match with a 25-13 win in set three.

Becker boasts three players in the match with 18 or more digs in Teddie Flynn (Amesbury, Mass.), Joanna Bampi (Peabody, Mass.), and Sofia Cullina (Deep River, Conn.), while the Colonels had four players hit double digits, led by Shea Mathews (Concord, N.H., 16). Setter Lex Bell (Salem, Conn.) collected a match-high 22 assists while her counterpart, Jenna Savoie (Charlton, Mass.) nabbed 20. Flynn topped the Hawks' offense with 10 kills while Faith Herity (River Edge, N.J.) matched that total to lead Curry.

The Hawks have a short turnaround as they welcome in Albertus Magnus on Thursday, September 19 for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference match. Curry has even less time to rest, as they return home to take on the Dean College Bulldogs tomorrow at 6:00 p.m.
