Women's Volleyball Rallies For Five-Set Victory Over Albertus Magnus on Senior Day

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College posted a 3-2 (18-25, 25-19, 13-25, 25-21, 18-16) victory over Albertus Magnus College on Thursday night in non-conference action at the Katz Gymnasium on Senior Day. Prior to the match, the team honored its two seniors: Angela Johns (Burrillville, R.I.) and Kaitlyn Giubbini (Newark, Calif.) in a special pre-game ceremony.

Lexi Pereira (Attleboro, Mass.) led the Colonels with 20 kills and added 10 digs. Giubbini, Amanda Wood (Tokyo, Japan), and Caroline Kilduff (Rockland, Mass.) finished with nine kills apiece. Shea Mathews (Concord, N.H.) led all players with 19 digs. Alexis Bell (Salem, Conn.) dished out a season-high 44 assists. 

Summer Onorato (East Haven, Conn.) paced the Falcons with a double-double of 21 kills and 12 digs. Vanessa Isyk (Meriden, Conn.) also pitched in a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs. Maria Vazquez (Hamden, Conn.) added eight kills and nine digs while Ashley David (West Islip, Conn.) registered six kills and 12 digs. Jaiden Williams (Orange, Conn.) tallied a match-high 46 assists.

After the teams traded the first two sets, Albertus Magnus led 15-10 before reeling off a 10-3 run, finishing off the set with a kill by Onorato to cap off the set with a 12-point victory 25-13 to grab the 2-1 lead.

In the fourth, the Colonels erased a seven-point lead to knot the stanza at 18. Curry then closed the set on a 7-3 spurt, finished off with a service ace from Jordyn Keith (Whitman, Mass.) to give the Colonels the 25-21 set win to extend the match.

Curry was able to erase a two-point deficit late to tie the set at 14 in the fifth. The Colonels outscored the Falcons 4-2 over the remainder of the set. With a 17-16 lead, Bell supplied the match point with the kill for the home team to give Curry the come-from-behind victory.

Curry (8-16 overall) will next play at Endicott College on Saturday, October 27 at 1:00 p.m. for its regular season finale. Albertus Magnus (11-16) hosts Pratt and Becker in a tri-match on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
