Women's Volleyball Captures Pair of 3-1 Victories in Home Tri-Match

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's volleyball team swept its lone home tri-match of the season, topping Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Nichols College in four sets, 3-1 in the morning match and then defeated the University of St. Joseph (Conn.) by the same score.

Match One – Curry 3, Nichols 1

The Colonels came out strong early and captured the first set by a score of 25-17. However, the Bison rallied to win the second set, 25-20. Curry responded to win the third and fourth sets by 25-16 and 25-18 scores.

Amanda Wood (Tokyo, Japan) posted a match-high 14 kills to lead the Colonels nine digs and one solo block. Alexis Bell (Salem, Conn.) handed out 31 assists to lead the Curry offense while also adding 15 digs for a double-double. Lexi Pereira (Attleboro, Mass.) also registered a double-double of 12 kills and 17 digs.

Jayleen Fegan (Mansfield Center, Conn.) paced Nichols with 13 kills. Megan Gardner (South Deerfield, Mass.) added a double-double of 11 assists and 14 digs and a pair of blocks on the afternoon. Fegan also finished with a match-high 25 digs.

Match Two – Curry 3, University of St. Joseph (Conn.) 1

USJ opened the match against Curry by taking the first set by a 25-19 final. The Colonels then went on to capture the next three sets by 25-22, 25-16, and 26-11 to secure the victory.

Pereira led the Colonels with 14 kills while posting nine digs. Wood added eight kills. Rachel Damstra (Houston, Texas) and Kaitlyn Giubbini (Newark, Calif.) registered seven kills each. Shea Mathews (Concord, N.H.) recorded a team-high 17 digs while Bell tallied a double-double of 34 assists and 12 digs.

Hannah Benson (Terryville, Conn.) was the kill leader for the Blue Jays with 10 along with six digs. Aminah Tsonga (Plainville, Conn.) pitched in with nine kills and eight digs. Janell Molina (Honolulu, Hawaii) registered a team-high 22 digs and Brenna Miller (McLeary, Wash.) dished out 24 assists.

Curry (7-15 overall, 1-5 CCC) will next travel to the University of New England for a conference match on Tuesday, October 23 at 7:00 p.m.
