Women's Volleyball Swept at Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. – The Curry College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Salve Regina University on Tuesday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Rodgers Recreation Center.

The Seahawks won by set scores of 25-19, 25-18, and 25-18 to improve to 15-7 overall (3-2 CCC). Andee Bender (Lebanon, Conn.) finished with a match-high 12 kills and added 12 digs to record a double-double. Madison Lee (Dover, Fla.) contributed 11 kills, four digs, and three service aces and 11 digs as Salve Regina hit .275 as a squad on the night.

Lexi Pereira (Attleboro, Mass.) and Amanda Wood (Tokyo, Japan) paced Curry with six kills apiece while Rachel Damstra (Houston, Texas) and Kaitlyn Giubbini (Newark, Calif.) added five each. Jordyn Keith (Whitman, Mass.) chipped in a team-high 15 digs. Alexis Bell (Salem, Conn.) tallied a team-high 22 assists.

The first set was tightly contested as the squads split the first 32 points (16-16). The Seahawks outscored the Colonels 9-3 over the remainder of the stanza to take the early 1-0 lead.

Salve Regina took the second set by a 25-18 final to take a 2-0 advantage. Facing elimination, Curry battled the Seahawks in the third set and held a 12-11 lead midway through after a Salve Regina error. The Seahawks would then close on a 14-6 run to secure the sweep.

Curry (4-12 overall, 0-4 CCC) will next head to Emerson College on Thursday, October 11 at 7:00 p.m. Salve Regina returns to action at Bridgewater State on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
