Wentworth Edges Out Women's Volleyball

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Wednesday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Katz Gymnasium.

The Leopards captured sets by scores of 25-18, 25-22, and 27-25 to improve to 15-2 overall (4-0 CCC). Leah Rogoz (Woodridge, Ill.) finished with a match-high 18 kills and added 17 digs to record a double-double. Claire Quick (Mission Viejo, Calif.) contributed a double-double of 11 kills and 17 digs as Wentworth hit .140 as a squad on the day.

Lexi Pereira (Attleboro, Mass.) paced Curry with 13 kills while Kaitlyn Giubbini (Newark, Calif.) and Amanda Wood (Tokyo, Japan) added five apiece. Rachel Damstra (Houston, Texas) chipped in a team-high 12 digs while Alexis Bell (Salem, Conn.) added 10 digs and 23 assists.

Shea Mathews (Concord, N.H.) got the Colonels off to a great start in the opening set, serving Curry to a 4-0 lead. Wentworth would eventually grab the lead and never look back to take the first set 25-18 on three straight kills, one from Abigail Mains (Goldendale, Wash.) and two from Quick to give the Leopards the early 1-0 lead.

The squads traded the first 38 points of the second set (19-19). Wentworth then closed the stanza on a 6-3 run to capture the set 25-22.

The final set was close in the early stages as the teams traded blows. The Colonels erased a four-point deficit to knot the set at 16. The Leopards then finished the set on a 6-2 run to edge Curry in the final set, 27-25.

Curry (4-11 overall, 0-3 CCC) will hit the road for four matches starting on Tuesday, October 9 at Salve Regina at 7:00 p.m. Wentworth returns to action at Emerson on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
