Volleyball Downs Dean in Straight Sets (25-21, 25-17, 25-19)

FRANKLIN, Mass. - Curry College got a trio of standout performances and the visiting Colonels posted a straight set 3-0 win over Dean College in non-league women's volleyball action on Thursday evening. The win for Curry is their fourth in their last five matches as they improved to 8-7 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Trailing for most of the first set, the Bulldogs rallied to tie the set at 17-17 and then again at 20-20. Curry went on to score the next four of the next five points, highlighted by a Jordyn Keith (Whitman, Mass.) service ace to secure the victory.

The second set started off in fine fashion for the hosts as Kaitlyn Anderson (Clinton, Conn.) took control registering a trio of kills and a block solo.

Dean was still in front until a scoring spurt by Curry that included a Janine Medina (Pawtucket, R.I.) service ace and a cross-court kill from Shea Matthews (Concord, N.H.) gave the Colonels the lead.

It remained close as the set wore on but Curry moved ahead 20-16 as a pair of Bulldog hitting errors were sandwiched around kills by Monica Wilkes (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) and Mathews.

The Colonels went on to take the set 25-17 as Grace Stafford (West Yarmouth, Mass.) delivered a service ace and Caroline Kilduff (Rockland, Mass.) snuck in a kill down the stretch.

Curry led for a large portion of the first half of the third set but the Bulldogs were still close at 16-14 midway through the frame.

In the end, however, the Colonels proved to be too much, pulling away to get the 25-19 win to seal the match victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Stafford finished with ten kills and 14 digs, while Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) ended with 11 kills of her own and defensive specialist Courtney Carroll (Fairhaven, Mass.) reeled in 23 digs.

Dean was paced by Anderson, who finished with a team-best eight kills. Aminah Tsonga (Plainville, Conn.) totaled five kills and 12 digs and Sami Mulcahy (Taunton, Mass.) posted four kills and 17 digs.
