Volleyball Tripped Up By Endicott, 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-18)

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback to visiting Endicott College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Tuesday night at the Katz Gymnasium. The Gulls improve to 9-5 overall and 3-0 in the CCC. The Colonels dip to 7-7 and 2-2 in league play.

Endicott won by set scores of 25-12, 25-16 and 25-18. Emma Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.) posted a match-high 10 kills and hit .600 to lead the Gulls offensively. Mareena Clotfelter (Poulsbo, Wash.) handed out a match-high 13 assists while Cydney Pierce (Carpinteria, Calif.) tallied 16 digs.

Grace Stafford (West Yarmouth, Mass.) and Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) led the way for Curry with five kills apiece. Monica Wilkes (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) dished out nine assists and paced the team with 12 digs.

Endicott fought from behind in the early going but eventually raced out to a big lead in the opening set. Down by three in the early going, the Gulls would embark on a 12-0 run to gain a nine-point advantage (16-7). The run was halted by an attack error from Lauren Sheehan (Lynnfield, Mass.) to make the score 16-8. Endicott closed the opening frame strong, outscoring the Colonels 9-3 and took the opening set 25-12 to give the Gulls a 1-0 advantage.

A 14-9 start put the Gulls on top in the second stanza. A 6-0 spurt late in the set gave Endicott a 23-14 lead and the set was closed out on back-to-back kills by Mancini and Remi Quesnelle (Sunderland, Mass.).

Endicott was able to grab the early lead in set number three with a 12-9 advantage. The Gulls were able to push the lead to seven after a kill by Sheehan, but the Colonels would pull to within two following a 4-0 run capped off by an attack error from Sheehan. Endicott closed the match strong, winning the final five points and took the final set by a 25-17 final.

Curry will next play at Dean College on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Endicott returns to action at home against UMass.-Boston on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
