MILTON, Mass.- The Curry Volleyball team was edged 3-2 by Wentworth in CCC action on Thursday night at the Katz Gymnasium. With the win, the Leopards improve to 21-3 overall and 4-2 in the conference. The Colonels now stand at 9-11 overall and 1-5 in the CCC.

On the offensive side of the ball Grace Stafford (West Yarmouth, Mass.) led Curry with 17 kills. Stafford posted a double-double by also recording 21 digs. Alyssa Keeney (Coventry, Conn.) paced the Colonels with 31 assists.

For Wentworth, Leah Rogoz registered a match-high 19 kills while hitting an impressive .306 on the match. She also was tied for the team lead in digs with 22. Katelyn Carlson handed out 32 assists for the Leopards.

Wentworth jumped on the board quick, gaining an early 11-3 advantage. The Leopards remained strong in the opening set and took it by a final of 25-10.

Wentworth added to their lead when they took the second set by a final of 25-18. The set was even early on, with the teams trading each of the first eight points. At eight-all the Leopards went on a 7-0 run.  Later in the set, Curry would respond with a mini 4-0 run to cut the Wentworth lead to six at 21-15. The Leopards then won four of the next seven points to take the 2-0 advantage.

With the 2-0 deficit, the Colonels fought back. In a hard fought third set, Curry got on the board with a 28-26 victory. With the set tied at 26 apiece, the Colonels went up by one on an attacking error on Caroline Shea and the captured the fourth set when Stafford killed the ball to put the home team on the board.

The fourth set featured the same back and forth nature as the third. Neither team held a lead more than three points. With Wenworth up 22-19, Curry went on a 5-0 run to gain a two point advantage (24-22). The Colonels knotted the match at two sets apiece when there was an attack error by the Leopards.

The teams traded the first seven points of the final set. With the match tied at 12 in the late stages of the fifth Curry  gained the one point advantage when Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass) registered one of her seven kills.

With the one point deficit, Wentworth took a timeout. Following the timeout, the Leopards rattled off three straight points to take the final set, 15-13.  

Curry returns to the court Saturday when they host Nichols at noon in their homecoming game. Wentworth will also play Saturday, as they will travel to Eastern Nazarene for an 11 a.m. first serve.
