Western New England Rallies Past Colonels in CCC Opener

Milton, Mass.- The Curry Volleyball team suffered a 3-1 setback to Western New England University as both teams opened up CCC play Tuesday night. The Colonels took the first set by a final of 25-22, but the Golden Bears rebounded to win the next three sets (25-22, 25-16, 25-19).

 

Grace Stafford (West Yarmouth, Mass.) led the way for Curry in the kill category with nine. Alyssa Keeney dished out a team-high 14 assists. Courtney Carroll tallied 14 digs for the Colonels while Carly Skibinski tallied 13 kills on the night for the Golden Bears.

 

Following a 10-2 run to open the fourth set for Western New England, Curry rattled off a run of their own, scoring the next six points to close the score to 10-8. The Golden Bears answered the call claiming 10 of the next 12 points to extend their lead to 10.

 

The Colonels would not go down without a fight, going on a 7-0 run. Western New England responded to win the fourth and deciding set, 25-19.

 

Curry returns to the court Wed. Sept. 21 as they are set to host Gordon in a 6 p.m. contest while Western New England continues conference play when play Eastern Nazarene at home Wednesday at 7 p.m.
