Women's Volleyball Defeats Becker, 3-0, Reaching 10 Wins in a Season for the First Time in Program History

MILTON, Mass. – Curry College swept visiting Becker College, 3-0, in non-conference women's volleyball action Thursday night in Milton. The Colonels improve to 10-11 while the Hawks fall to 10-14 on the season. This marks the first time in the six-year history of Curry Women's Volleyball that the team has reached the 10-win plateau.

In the first set, Curry and Becker traded points with the Colonels ultimately winning, 26-24. In the next two sets, the Colonels won 25-18 and 25-17 to close out the match.

Junior Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) led the Colonels with a game-best 12 kills and was followed by freshman Grace Stafford (West Yarmouth, Mass.) with seven while also adding seven digs. Junior Alyssa Keeney (Coventry, Conn.) led the team with 17 assists while chipping in four digs. Sophomore Makayla Hughes (Franklin, N.H.) followed Keeney with 13 assists and also added nine digs. Sophomore Courtney Carroll (Fairhaven, Mass.) recorded a game-high 26 digs for Curry.

The Hawks were led by junior Marissa Turner (Coventry, R.I.) and freshman Kayla Dupree (North Bergen, N.J.) who both recorded 6 kills. Sophomore Carlene Landry (Gorham, Maine) recorded a game best 18 assists while adding 7 digs. Freshman Brittney Bullis (Stafford, Va.) led Becker with 15 digs in the backcourt.

The Colonels return to action on Saturday at 11 a.m. as they travel to Gordon College for a tri-match against the Fighting Scots and against Worcester State. The Hawks also resume play on Saturday as they travel to Daniel Webster College for a 1 p.m. New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) showdown.
