Women's Volleyball Puts Away Visiting Bay Path, 3-0

MILTON, Mass. – The Curry College Colonels handled the visiting Bay Path Wildcats, 3-0, in non-conference women's volleyball action on Thursday night in Milton. The Colonels swept by scores of 25-17, 25-15 and 26-24 to improve to 6-7 on the season, while the Wildcats fell to 5-6.

Curry routinely took care of Bay Path in the first two sets, not allowing more than 17 points, which was scored in the first set. In the last set, the Wildcats jumped out to a 14-6 lead. The Colonels would charge back but Bay Path responded. It eventually was tied at 24 when Curry got two-straight points in order to close out the game and get the victory.

The Colonels were led by sophomore Nicole Rice (Woburn, Mass.) with a game high 13 kills and five total blocks. Junior classmates Makayla Hughes (Franklin, N.H.) and Alyssa Keeney (Coventry, Conn.) recorded 16 and 14 assists, respectively. Hughes also added seven digs while Keeney added four block assists. Sophomore Courtney Carroll (Fairhaven, Mass.) led the digs department with a match high 22.

On the other side of the net, the Wildcats were led by sophomore Lauren Vallee (Bristol, Conn.), who put up seven kills and was followed closely by senior Elizabeth Haylette (Terryville, Conn.) who amassed six. Valle also added eight digs. Freshman Lexi Cears (Agawam, Mass.) led the match with a total of 17 assists while also adding seven digs. Freshman Joanne Nazario (Springfield, Mass.) and Haylette tied for the team high in digs with 12.

The Colonels return to action this Saturday as they travel to Emerson College for a non-conference tri-match starting at 11 a.m. Bay Path also resumes play on Saturday as they host Southern Vermont for a conference match starting at 12:30 p.m.
